Suicide bomber blows self up near U.S. consulate in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia: A suicide bomber has blown himself up near a US consulate in the Red Sea city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in the early hours of Monday morning, the Saudi Arabian Interior ministry said.

According to media reports, security officers became suspicious of a man near the parking lot of Dr Suleiman Faqeeh Hospital, which is adjacent to the US diplomatic site.
In an attempt to stop and investigate him, the man blew up himself with a explosive belt he was wearing close to the hospital parking lot at around 2:15am on Monday morning  which led to his death and wounding two security officers in the process.

The attack occurred on July 4, just as the US marks its Independence Day holiday.
The Interior minister said investigators are trying to identify the attacker.

US State Department in a statement through its spokesman, said:
"We are aware of reports of an explosion in Jeddah and working with Saudi authorities to collect more information.
"We can confirm that all personnel under chief-of-mission authority are accounted for at this time."
No one or any group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
