Sam Allardyce to be named England manager in next 24 hours
The big boss will take charge of his final game with the Black Cat in a friendly at Hartlepool later in the day.
Allardyce was recommended to the FA Board at a meeting on Wednesday morning by a three-man panel including chief executive Martin Glenn, technical director Dan Ashworth and vice-chairman David Gill.
Allardyce was first interviewed for the England job in 2006 when Sven Goran Eriksson left after the World Cup, but the FA opted to appoint Steve McClaren instead.
Roy Hodgson stepped down as England boss on June 27 England's woeful outing at the Euro 2016 in France.
