Queen formally appoints Theresa May as new British prime minister
UK: Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth has formally appointed Theresa May as the new British prime minister after the former Home Secretary visited Buckingham Palace to be formally confirmed as Britain’s second female Prime Minister.
Mrs May “kissed hands” with Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in a simple ceremony which made her the 13th Prime Minister under the monarch’s reign.

May arrived at 10 Downing Street with her husband Philip to start work few minutes after former prime minister David Cameron had departed with his family in an emotional moment.
In her first speech at Downing street, Theresa May vowed to tackle “burning injustices” in the society.
Mrs May, said she saw a “bold” new role for the UK after it voted to leave the EU in June.
May flanked by her husband, Philip, told reporters:
“Following the referendum we face a time of great national change. And I know because we’re Great Britain that we will rise to the challenge,”
“As we leave the European Union we will forge a bold new positive role for ourselves in the world.
“And we will make Britain a country that works not for a privileged few but for everyone of us.”
David Cameron flanked by his family, in a farewell message outside 10 Downing Street, said he wished Theresa May well;
Theresa May would provide “strong and stable leadership” he said.Cameroon said it had been “the greatest honour of his life” to work there adding that;
“My only wish is continued success for this great country that I love so very much.”
