Euros 2016: Portugal are Europe's Champions after defeating France 1-0 in extra time to win their first ever major international trophy at Euro 2016 final at the Stade de France on Sunday night.

Eder, was the unlikely hero as he drilled in a 25-yard effort into the corner on 109 minutes to stun France as Portugal who were cast as underdogs overcame the early loss of star man, Cristiano Ronaldo to knee injury after 25 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo was forced out of the game with a knee injury just after 25 minutes but Portugal regrouped and thanks to some heroic goalkeeping from Rui Patricio 

Before the match, history shows that France had won Portugal in their previous 10 meetings.

Both sides had good chances to put the game behind them when France hit the post late on in normal time, and Portugal also did same just before Eder's goal.

Ronaldo's Real Madrid team matem Gareth Bale tweeted;

Pepe who was named man of the match described Portugal's win as a victory of the "humble,"

France coach Didier Deschamps paid tribute to Portugal's organization.

"The winner always deserves it," said Didier Deschamps.

 "You can analyze things but they didn't get to the final by chance.

"This is the first time I think that a team finished third in their group and ended up as champions."

Portugal coach Santos said: 

"I always said we were a team. I told them we have a lot of quality and talent. But first we have to run and fight."
