Police battle rioters in Harare

Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe's police have fired tear gas and water cannons at taxi and minibus drivers are who are protesting against they say is police harassment and corruption in the Country's capital city Harare on Monday morning.
According to reports, protesters were seen severely beating and manhandling some police officers with sticks, who then took their uniforms and helmets and wearing them.

The drivers blocked roads leading into the centre of Harare forcing many people to walk up to 6 miles to get to work. The rioters were also seen throwing stones at police and vehicles.

The drivers' grievances originated from frustration over several roadblocks set up by police in city streets, which drivers allege are to demand bribes.

Police recently promised to reduce the number of roadblocks after complaints from parliamentarians, tourism operators and others.
