Militants blow up Shell pipeline in Delta state

Nigeria: Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) crude oil trunkline in Batan community, Warri south west council area of Delta state has been blown up by suspected militants on Monday. Confirming the attack, community leader Dickson Ogugu, said the incident happened around 1am on Monday.

Ruing the consequences of such attacks in the region, Ogugu appealed to militants to sheathe their swords and dialogue with the federal government of Nigeria.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet but it is believed that the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) militants, which has been responsible for recent attacks on oil installations in the region, might be responsible for the attack but are yet to make any comment regarding the attack.

The site of the attack has been sealed off by security personnel, who had a hard time locating the site.

President Muhammadu Buhari has consistently appealed to the militants to dialogue with the federal government.
