Man who shot president Reagan 35 years ago to be freed

US: A US federal judge has ruled that John Hinckley Junior, 61 the man who wounded US President Ronald Reagan and three other people in a assassination attempt in 1981, should be freed after 35 years in jail and released to live with his mother who lives in Williamsburg, about 210km south of Washington.

US District Judge Paul Friedman on Wednesday said Hinckley no longer constitute a threat to himself or others and could be set free from a government psychiatric hospital in Washington.
In a 14-page order, Friedman said;
Hinckley, 61, "is permitted to reside full-time in Williamsburg, Virginia, on convalescent leave, which shall begin no sooner than Aug. 5, 2016,"
The order includes a stipulation that Hinckley see his psychiatrist in Washington once at least  every month and infporm the Secret Service when he goes for the appointment.

Hinckley was found not guilty by a jury for the attack on Reagan for reason of insanity which also seriously injured presidential press secretary James Brady.

Hinckley carried out the attack as he tried to impress actress Jodie Foster, whom he was obsessed with.
