Man shoots wife, 4 others and injured 20 in cafe in northern Serbia

Serbia: At least five people have been killed and 20 others injured by a gunman who opened fire at visitors with an automatic gun fire in a cafe at 1:40am local time on Saturday in a village close to Zrenjanin in northern Serbia, police say.

According to police statement, the man identified only as ZS first killed his wife and another woman before randomly shooting at the other visitors of the cafe. The suspect was arrested.

According to a witness Svetozar Manojlovic, the attacker entered the cafe and saw his wife there with a group of friends. He then went home and returned with a gun.
"He just pulled out a gun and started shooting, first into the air," Svetozar Manojlovic, said
"It sounded like firecrackers at first," "Then the guy next to me fell down and others started falling down. It was total chaos."
Serbia's Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said that the cafe visitors finally managed to seiza the weapon from the man's hands when he attempted to flee. Police quickly arrived and caught the suspect, adding that jealousy was the probable motive for the attack.

Stefanovic said the automatic weapon was illegal and appealed to citizens to hand over illegal weapons that are in their possession following the wars in the Balkans in the 1990s.
"This was completely unexpected," Stefanovic said, "There were no signs at all, people tell us that he was completely calm and norma," he said.
The wounded were taken to nearby hospitals in Zrenjanin and Novi Sad.
