Jamaica to open cannabis 'Atms' at it's Airports and Harbours

Jamaica: Jamaica in a bid to cash in on weed after it was decriminalized in February, has decided to install cannabis ATM's at its airport terminals and harbors giving tourist and visitors the opportunity to get hold of weed as soon as they enter the country.

Tourists and visitors would be able to register to use weed at the ATM and then pick up a couple of weed before their onward journey.

The idea is being analyzed by the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) in Jamaica to look at ways to introduce these exclusive desks where visitors can pick up a licence for the herb.

Currently, it is legal to carry up to two ounces of weed in Jamaica, but police still have the power to issue anyone carrying it a ticket and a J$500 (£2.98) fine.

Its chairman Hyacinth Lightbourne said;
The thought is that if you are coming out of the airport, there is a kiosk that you can go to. So basically whoever is coming out of immigration can go to that desk and register and get clearance.
He added that it would primarily be for people who have a prescription;
in effect, you're doing it for medical purposed with a permit from the Ministry of Health. 'If they don't have a prescription, then they can do what we call "self declare'', and this will allow them to have the ounces while they are here.
