Istanbul's airport reopens as flights resumes after Turkey's failed coup

Turkey: Istanbul's international airport has reopened for operations following a failed coup attempt while some foreign airliners cancelled their weekend flights.
A spokesman for Turkish Airlines said flights had now returned to their normal schedule though delays are still to be expected.
Turkish budget carrier Pegasus said its flights were also experiencing minor delays.

Turkish Airlines chairman Ilker Ayci said Istanbul's Ataturk Airport closure late Friday led to the diversion of 35 airplanes and 32 cancelled flights.

In a statement, British Airways said it was halting all flights to Turkey on Saturday and one on Sunday as a precaution.

EasyJet said its advice from British authorities was to continue flying, although it was monitoring developments.

German airline Lufthansa cancelled all its flights to Istanbul and Ankara on Saturday and cut back the number flights to holiday destinations Bodrum and Antalya.

TASS news agency also reported that Russia had also suspended passenger flights to the country on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.
In a statement, state airline EgyptAir also cancelled all flights on Saturday to Istanbul.
