7 killed as suicide car bomb explodes near peacekeeper base in Somali capital

Somali: At least seven people have been killed after two suicide bombers attack the African Union's main peacekeeping base in Mogadishu, Somalia on Tuesday, police said.

The Islamist militant group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had killed more than 12 people.

Officers said the first attacker detonated a car bomb and the second tried to walk into the base but was shot and exploded at the gate.
Police officer Major Nur Osman said;
"AU forces sealed the area. There were many Somalis outside the gate and there were AU forces at the gate - we have not yet confirmed the casualty figure."

Al Shabaab has been trying to over throw the Western-backed Somali government as it had carried out series of assaults in the capital.
