1 Dead, 4 injured in Downtown shooting in central Austin, Texas

US: A woman has been killed and three others injured after two close-by but unrelated shooting took place few minutes apart in a crowded entertainment district of downtown Austin which set off a chaotic scene on Sunday as police search for the suspect.

An Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said police got reports of gunshots in the crowded entertainment area made up of bars and nightclubs on Sixth Street. Police say they found five people shot at the chaotic scene.
Manley said a suspect gunman started firing into the crowd after an initial upset.

Manley said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, and three other women were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with gunshot injuries adding that one victim refused to be taken to the hospital

Officials described those taken to the hospital as serious, but said their injuries were not life-threatening.
“It was a very chaotic scene,” Manley said.
“A lot of people running in different directions with all the gunshots coming out.”
Manley said officials are trying to discover who the suspects are, but didn’t rule out that one of those taken to the hospital might be one of the suspect.

Police had initially reported a shooter scene in the area, but Manley said the confusion was caused by two separate incidents.

Manley said there was another clash in a nearby parking garage and that a shot was fired there adding that the suspected shooter at this incident was “taken down by citizens” and taken to hospital after opening fire.

Manley said the unidentified shooter in the first incident, believed to be a white or light-skinned Hispanic male in his 20s, was yet t be apprehended.

“We have multiple individuals, witnesses, that we are currently interviewing,” Manley said.

“We had one individual who was initially noted as a person of interest, however that person’s status at this point is undetermined.”
Manley said due to the presence of large crowd of people, police were receiving descriptions of the suspect from witnesses but he however said the descriptions were consistent to an extent, but not all the same.
