Somalia security chief killed by own guard, al Shabaab claim responsibility

Somalia: Somalia head of national security, Abdiweli Ibrahim Mohamed has been shot dead in Jowhar, a town close to the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Islamist militant group al Shabaab through its spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab claimed responsibility for the killing of the senior security official, who they claimed was shot by one of his own bodyguards.

"We are behind the killing of the head of the national security for Middle Shebelle region,"

In a statement by a police officer in Jowhar, Ahmed Mohamud, he said;

"Two other bodyguards were wounded,"  "The assassin ran away, we are pursuing him."

According to residents who witnessed the killing, the bodyguard who shot the security chief was a former al Shabaab member who had defected to the government.
