Somalia military court sentences 43 Alshabaab militants to death

Somalia: A military court in northern Somalia town of Garowe, Puntland has sentenced 43 Alshabab militants who were captured in fighting between Puntland security forces and Alshabab in March 2016 to death.
According to Puntland prosecutor Abdullahi Hirsi Elmi, the Islamist jihadist  were charged under the anti terrorism laws of Puntland state.
"These men admitted to being Alshabab members and were using boats to wreck havoc In Puntland. They killed people, injured people and displaced people and they have been charged under puntland laws" said attorney general Abdullahi Hirsi Elmi.
97 members of the sects were captured, while 54 of them were considered minor with no intelligence knowledge to be tried in military court and therefore sent to rehabilitation center.
The prosecutor said that the sentenced militants can appeal against the judgement.

"The court carried out the death penalty to 43 Al Shabaab militants in Garowe town today, 54 other Al Shabaab militants remain in prison because they are young. These militants were arrested during the fighting in Nugaal and Mudug regions in March and April," Elmi said. Elmi said the Puntland State forces arrested 97 Al Shabaab militants.
