Rome: 37 years old Anti-establishment 5-Star Movement candidate, Virgina Raggi has defeated Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in local elections in Rome and Turin on Sunday. The Lawyer makes history by becoming the first woman mayor in Rome.

Raggi who capitalized on anger over political corruption and deteriorating city services, overwhelmed her opposite number Matteo Renzi's in Rome's mayoral run off on Sunday.

Raggi won the contest with more than 80 percent of ballots counted from the votes leading her rival by a 2 to 1 lead of the vote.
Renzi who was backed by Democrat Roberto Giachetti, conceded defeat less than an hour after polls ended.
Giachetti said he had called Raggi to wish her luck.
Raggi in a speech to supporters, said;
 "I will work to bring legality and transparency" to Rome's administration, Declaring that "the citizens of Rome won,"  "with us a new era begins."
