Pregnant woman and her husband allegedly killed by family members over marriage dispute

Pakistan: A pregnant woman, Aqsa Shakeel, 26 and her husband Muhammad Shakeel, 30 were murdered and their body dumped in a canal with bruises and gunshot wounds to the head. This is coming a day after the couple were reportedly kidnapped by relatives following a quarrel.
Aqsa, who is a healthcare worker, had been married to Muhammad, who had been working in a government school, for four years.

In a statement by the police, a group of relatives including the brother of Aqsa's, Muhammad Mauvia and her mother, Majeeda Bibi visited the couple on Wednesday at their home in Thikriwala, a village in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province.
Thereafter a heated argument started between the couple and the family members said the police. According to police, Aqsa's family had disapproved of the marriage between the couple.

Later on Wednesday, Aqsa's father Muhammad Kushi reported that the couple were missing and a search team was launched. The bodies of the couple were later found  in a canal near the village on Thursday evening.
Autopsy carried out on the bodies revealed that the couple were tortured and shot in the head.

The police described the incident as a murder case and said 'It is not honor killing, it's just plain murder' adding that one relative, identified as M Khawar, has so far been arrested in connection with the murder. The other relatives, of the couple including Aqsa's mother, brother and an uncle are yet to be apprehended.
