OMG! Man jailed for punching a swan in US

Weird: Wait a minute! A man jailed for punching a swan? Yes its so true that a 59 years old homeless man, Angel Velez from Florida has been sentenced to 10 days in jail after he was allegedly caught by two off duty police officers punching a swan on Sunday near an Orlando lake.

Velez was arrested by Orland police, Forrest Price and Corporal Shelby Riggshopkins who were walking around Lake Eola on Sunday evening when they stopped to admire a mother swan with her cygnets.
The men saw a swan moved towards Velez when he stepped too close.
the mother swan reached for Velez when he stepped too close to her babies as if to defend her babies from the intruder.
Velez then walked away but turned back and punched the swan with his left hand. Velez then tried to run away but he was chased and arrested by the officers.

Velez who was charged for injuring wildlife on public property pleaded no contest to injuring the bird. Besides the jail term, Velez was also banned from the park.

The charge is a code violation which carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Velez is being held in the Orange County Jail on $250 bail.
