Egypt’s ex president Mohammed Morsi sentenced to 40 years in prison
Egypt: Ex Egyptian president, Mohammed Morsi has been sentenced to 40 years in prison on charges of leaking secret state documents to
Qatar when he was president of Egypt by a Cairo Criminal court in Egypt. Egypt's
deposed Islamist president Mohammed Morsi was hit with two
separate jail terms of 25 years and another of 15 years on
different counts.
The court also upheld initial death sentences given to six defendants in the same case last month.
Also sentenced by the court were six
people, including two Al-Jazeera employees, to death for reportedly
transferring documents connected to national security to Qatar and
Al-Jazeera during the reign of Islamist president Mohammed
Morsi. Two of Morsi's aides were also sentenced to 25 years in prison.
The rulings is subjected to appeal.
Morsi, who was Egypt's first freely elected president, was ousted by the military in 2013 following mass protests.
The court also upheld initial death sentences given to six defendants in the same case last month.
