Cyprus grants 2,277 individuals citizenship of which Russians are top of the list

Cyprus: The republic of Cyprus granted 2,277 individuals citizenship in 2014, majority of whom are Russians, said the European statistical office on Monday.
According to Eurostat, 27.1 percent of the new citizens came from Russia 15.5 percent from Greece and 15.1 percent from the UK.
33 percent of the 2,277 individuals were already citizens of another European member state, while 67 percent were not.
About 890,000 persons acquired citizenship of a member state of the European Union in 2014, down from 981,000 in 2013. More than five million people in total have been granted citizenship of an EU member state since 2009.
89 per cent of the total number of persons obtaining citizenship of an EU member state in 2014 were non-EU citizens.
