China bans Lady Gaga and her whole collection, orders websites to stop uploading and distributing her songs after her meeting with Dalai Lama

China: US pop singer Lady Gaga has reportedly been banned from China by China’s Communist party after she posted on Facebook a 19 minutes video of her meeting with the Dalai Lama to discuss yoga and other issues.

The Communist party’s propaganda department issued “an order” banning her whole collection from the country.
The meeting which provoked an angry reaction from Beijing, blasted the spiritual leader as a “wolf in monk’s robes.”
Gaga met Dalai Lama, the Tibetan spiritual leader who fled into exile in March 1959 on Sunday June 26. Dalai insisted he is only seeking greater autonomy from Chinese rule for Tibetans.

Chinese media organizations and websites were ordered to stop uploading or circulating her songs in a sign of Beijing’s annoyance.
The party also issued orders mandating party controlled news outlets such as state broadcaster CCTV and newspapers the People’s Daily and the Global Times to disapprove of the meeting.
China has in the past banned artists and groups such as Maroon 5, Bjork and Oasis from performing in the country after they had also visited Dalai Lama or spoke out in his favour or Tibetan independence.
Reports suggested that Gaga knew the consequences of the meeting before meeting with the spiritual leader
“Lady Gaga knew how Beijing would react,” Bill Bishop, who runs the Sinocism newsletter, wrote on Twitter. “Good for her to show some courage, unlike most celebrities who are scared of bullying Beijing now.”
