CCTV footage shows the moment two suicide bombers detonates bomb at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport Tuesday night

Turkey: Footage of a man armed with an AK-47 running through the busy Ataturk international airport terminal before he was shot by the police in an attack that left at least 36 people dead and more than 140 people wounded on Thursday night has emerged. See Video after the cut

The grim footage saw a police officer rushes towards a gunman as he wriggles on the floor of the airport. The police officer then quickly ran back in the opposite direction. Less than 10 seconds later the gunman detonated the explosive tied on his body.

Turkish officials say the death toll may likely rise above 50.
A second video has also emerged on the internet which shows the moment another bomb rips through the terminal entrance filled with people.
Turkish officials also said a third bomb exploded in the car park at the airport.
Survivors who saw the bombers before they unleashed terror at Istanbul’s main international airport recall their experiences.

A US journalist Steven Nabil tweeted that he and his wife were fortunate to escape the attack after a terrorist shot at them.

“We just left the airport,” he wrote. “We were face to face with the attacker while he sprayed (bullets) ... We barely made it.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan enforced a blanket ban on reporting the terror attack in Turkey, which is a common practice.

Erdogan said the attackers arrived at the airport by taxi and attempted to gain entrance through the airport’s security machines before they opened fire on security staff.
Majority of the victims are believed to be Turkish.

Though no group have yet claim responsibility for the attack, it is still believed that the Islamic State is responsible for the attack.
