British man arrested at rally after failed attempt to shot Trump

US: A 20 year old British man, Michael Steven Sandford was arrested in Las Vegas after he allegedly tried to kill presumptive republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump during a rally on Saturday. Las Vegas police confirmed Sandford has been handed over to the US Secret Service for investigation.

According to court papers filed on Monday, Sandford who tried to wrestle a gun from a police officer at the event, told investigators he had driven from California to the city with a plan to assassinate Donald Trump. He added that he had been planning the attack for about 12 months and believed he would die in the process.
Sandford, who is originally from Surrey, claims to have been in the US in the last 18 months, and have a British driving licence, has been charged with committing an act of violence on restricted ground, said US Attorney's Office spokesman Natalie Collins.
He appeared before Federal Magistrate Judge George Foley, who refused him bail.

Sandford, who wore leg irons and reportedly appeared to quiver during his court appearance, has yet to entered a plea. He is expected to reappear in court on 5 July.
Court papers say:

"Sandford claimed he had been attempting to kill Trump for about a year but decided to act on this occasion because he finally felt confident about trying it."

The papers also cited a Special Agent Swierkowski, who said Sandford had arrived in New Jersey before ending up in the San Bernardino, California, area.
He allegedly told the agent he had driven to Las Vegas after hearing that Trump would be holding a rally there.
Sandford had arrived in Las Vegas on Friday and then went to a gun range to master how to shoot a gun - something he told the agent he had not done before.
