Britain's Labour MP Jo Cox shot and stabbed in West Yorkshire
UK: British Labour politician Jo Cox, 41 has been shot and stabbed by a man who allegedly shouted ‘Britain First’ on Thursday. This is coming just a week before the Brexit vote.
According to an eyewitness reports Cox got involved in
a brawl between two men in Birstall near Leeds. The witness said;''one of the men was fighting with Ms Cox and then a gun went off at least twice and “she fell between two cars and I came and saw her bleeding on the floor.”
Another eyewitness who runs a cafe nearby said;
''she was shot three times, including once in “the head area”, before being stabbed multiple times with a “foot-long knife”.
“Three times she was shot, the initial time which then she dropped to the floor and two more times,” the man said. “The third time he got close proximity he shot her round the head area.”
“In the meantime he was stabbing her as well, he was stabbing her with his knife,” he said. “He was stabbing her with a footlong knife multiple times while shouting Britain First, Britain First, Britain First.”
The witness added that the gunman shouted “Britain First,” which may tell he want the UK to exit the EU.Not long ago, Ms Cox called for Britain to remain in the European Union ahead of the June 23 Brexit vote.
West Yorkshire police said it has arrested a 52 year old man and closedown a neighboring care home.
In a tweet by the police, it said;
“We are aware of a serious incident ongoing in Birstall. Details will be released in the press in due course.”
Her husband, Brenda Cox posted a photo of her on Twitter after the attack. The couple has two children together.
Prime Minister of Britain, David Cameron in a statement said:
“Very concerned about reports Jo Cox has been injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jo and her family.”
