Zimbabweans match through Harare in a one million-man march for Mugabe

Zimbabwe's ruling part, Zanu-PF's youth wing on Wednesday organized demonstrators to march through Harare in a one million man match in support of veteran President Robert Mugabe.

Tens of thousands of Zimbabweans turned out for the march as demonstrators were shipped in from all over Zimbabwe, but the number fell short of the party's goal of attracting a million people.

The demonstrators were heard singing pro-Mugabe songs as they pull out of buses in central Harare. The march was organized in a show of force to counter a demonstration held by the opposition last month calling for the president's resignation.
92-year old Mugabe speaking at the rally, denounced as "treasonous" factions in his party feuding over who should succeed him.
"There should never be little groups to promote so and so. Those little groups are treasonous groups, they spoil the party," Mugabe told his supporters.
"Let us not hear discordant voices from whomsoever. All this thing about factions is new to us, it destabilizes the party," said Mugabe, touting the march as a "great revolutionary act" by young party members.

In response to the march by opposition, Nelson Chmisa of the opposition party Moveent for Democratic change (MDC) said; "That effort is a waste of time, a waste of energy, that effort is a waste of resources,"
Critics of Mugabe also bear their mind on the march saying organizing the march costs at least half a million dollars - money better spent on fighting poverty.
