Rival Militants clash, blow up oil pipeline in Bayelsa, Nigeria

Militants operating in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria have blown up a pipeline belonging to to the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Ikeinghenbiri community in, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

An eye witness from the community blamed the attack on a supremacy battle between two rival militant group struggling for control of the Ogboinbiri-Tebidaba crude trunk line which passed through the area.

One group claims to be working to safeguard the pipeline describing their rival group as vandals. They have been shooting sporadically which sent residents fleeing the area, according to sources.

“The sound of the gunfire has sent panic waves into the community. But the arrival of the NSCDC operatives has temporarily restored peace in the area.”

The pipeline was set ablaze while the two groups engaged each other in the gun battle adding that there was no way to ascertain if there was any casualty yet.
