North Cyprus President Akinci demands justice for attack on Turkish Cypriots in Nicosia

Three Turkish Cypriots were on Sunday attacked by Greek Cypriots in Nicosia according to reports. Victims of the attack, Can Kürşat, Ali Şonya and Cenk Hasan were attacked when they crossed to South Cyprus.
According to Hasan  “We were attacked by 100-150 people. They opened the doors and tried to pull us out.  We barely escaped. The car’s bodywork was damaged because of the kicks. There were tens of people around but nobody did anything. If we had not been able to escape we would now be hospitalized.”
Kürşat also complained to Lefkoşa Police Department and added that he will complain to the Greek Cypriot police as well.
Kürşat said, “They should do the necessary to find the attackers. It happened in front of the police station. Such terrorist attacks are unacceptable in this period. Such crimes should not remain unpunished, because such attacks can increase as long as they remain unpunished.”

Meanwhile President Akinci’s has condemned the attack in a written statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesman, Baris Burcu recalling that such “unacceptable incidents” had occurred in the past as well. Burcu said that upon instructions from the President Akinci he had asked President Anastasiades via the Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis, for the arrest and effective punishment of the perpetrators, as well as compensation for the damages which the Turkish Cypriots had suffered.
