Experts have resumed the search for missing Turkish Cypriot

Search for Turkish Cypriot missing
Experts have started the excavations in northern Cyprus, Nicosia for the remains of 23 missing Turkish Cypriots killed during intercommunal strife in the 1960s. It is believed that the remains were buried
there – a cemetery near the Kyrenia Gate – after being transferred from other areas.
Nine of the bodies were taken there from Ayios Vasilios, in the north, west of Nicosia. The bodies had been moved between January 13 and 14, 1964. The rest were collected from other areas around the capital.
The excavation is part of a bicommunal project headed by the Committee on Missing Persons, which has been tasked with exhuming, identifying and returning the remains of missing persons from both sides to their relatives.
