Eurosport Paper Round: Manchester United want to bring in both John Stones and Mats Hummels to sort out their defence
Chelsea are set to be pipped to the signing of Miralem Pjanic by Juventus,
reports The Express. Roma midfielder Pjanic has impressed as a
deep-lying central playmaker this season, while also showing a
remarkable ability from set-pieces, and new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte
is reportedly very keen to bring the Bosnia international to Stamford
Bridge. However, Juventus have jumped ahead of Chelsea in the race to
seal the talented midfielder’s signature.
Manchester United are in the driving seat to seal the signature
of John Stones in the summer, according to The Metro. Chelsea have been
long-term admirers of the talented Everton
centre-back and were reportedly ready to pay up to £40 million for the
England international. However, the Toffees are holding out for more,
with Chelsea put off by the increasing transfer fee for the youngster.
United are now the favourites to sign Stones, although Manchester City and Barcelona are also interested.
Manchester United have a week to tempt Mats Hummels to Old
Trafford, says The Express. Germany international Hummels has long been a
transfer target for the Red Devils and has looked ready to leave Borussia Dortmund
for much of the past year. United are desperate to strengthen their
back-line and believe that Hummels is the perfect player for their style
of play, but the centre-back is reportedly set on joining Bayern Munich in the summer.
Mahrez to turn down Arsenal move
Riyad Mahrez will turn down Arsenal to stay at Leicester City
for another season, reports The Metro. The PFA Player of the Year has
been one of the stars of Leicester’s title-winning season and has
attracted plenty of attention across the continent, with Arsenal tipped
to hold the biggest interest in the Algerian. However, Mahrez told
reporters that he is very happy” at Leicester and is not considering
