Cyprus Update: Cyprus and TRNC reaches close agreement on 4 four chapters in negotiations

In the on going negotiations between Cyprus and TRNC, both sides are believed to be more confident because of the progress already achieved in four chapters in the negotiations.

According to diplomatic sources close to the negotiations, differences over governance, property, EU affairs and economy are manageable and can be bridged.

The possibility of a successful negotiation is high so far both leaders leaders work intensively to reach the same level of agreement on the most difficult aspects of the talks, which are territory, security and guarantees.

During the recent meetings, the two leaders have begun testing out ideas on territory and guarantees; and early results look promising.

However, diplomats acknowledged that the two leaders can only reach a certain level of agreement and It will be up to Turkey to make tangible moves to secure a deal.

One advance would be that Turkey stops pressurizing the TRNC government to grant, Turkish dwellers who live and work in North Cyprus mass citizenship.

Turkey would also need to be willing to write off the huge debt owed by the North Cyrus and also permit the Greek and Turkish Cypriots to reach an all level agreement of territory and guarantees.
