the blue fishing boat packed with migrants began to rock violently before capsizing, which made some of the frantic migrants climb onto the hull of the capsized boat while others jump into the water and swam towards a ship in an effort to save their lives.

Navy swimmers were seen pulling migrants in lifebelts towards safety. Among those rescued were women and children.
An Italian navy patrol boat Bettica saw that the vessel was in difficulty and approached it to hand out life jackets, but was already too late to rescue it before it flipped over due to the sudden movement of the passengers.
